History

North One Garden Centre - History

After spending a year looking for a suitable site to open a garden centre, I found a very run down space that had originally been a stable yard and an old button and zip factory. The two spaces were combined and the factory is now our shop, while the stable yard is the planteria.

During this year I also searched for the best suppliers in their field, visiting trade shows and nurseries. By making contact with specialist growers all over England, I prepared the ground for what we are still doing – offering a wider selection of plants and shrubs than many garden centres much larger than us. And, because we buy from the best specialist English growers, our plants are also the very best quality.

North One Garden Centre - Today

North One Garden Centre is a thriving business of 8 years supplying high quality plants and stylish garden related goods in North London. Staff have been carefully picked for their knowledge, intelligence, friendliness and commitment. They also work together brilliantly as a team.

This team has enabled us to enter into a rather extraordinary relationship with our customers, who are full of praise for the quality of service and advice they can count on being given.

Happy staff make for happy customers, and the quality of service depends largely on the fact they members of staff like and respect each other, and enjoy working together.

What the press think of us

Often featured in the national press and magazines, North One was recently included among the Daily Telegraph’s list of favourite places, our plants and flowers described as being ‘displayed in inspiring combinations... creating a young and modern look’.

When Rae Spencer-Jones compiled "a list of favourite places" for the Daily Telegraph, we were the only London garden centre to be included.

"North One Garden Centre has been a well-kept secret among its Islington devotees, until now. From tiny premises, Beryl Hislop sells unusual plants displayed in inspiring combinations that change every week. Bespoke garden furniture and pots and vases from the Continent create a young and modern look".

Frequently used by trade magazines as an example of an innovative and successful "boutique" business, North One has a reputation for quality, style and innovation acknowledged both locally and in the national press.
